The Suffolk County District Attorney's office has scheduled a dangerousness hearing for Abbas on July 29, where the court will determine if he poses a significant threat to public safety and should be held without bail.

According to the District Attorney's office, the incident began when police officers made contact with Abbas in the area of 66 Hyde Park Avenue, after receiving a report of a stolen black BMW X7 from an auto body shop in Abington. During a brief conversation, Abbas suddenly put the car in reverse and attempted to flee, injuring the first officer who had placed his hands on the vehicle. As Abbas drove the BMW forward, a second officer was hit and thrown to the ground, suffering multiple broken bones and a large head wound. In response, the second officer fired his gun, striking Abbas in the face.
