Unveiling the Treasures of Westwood's Wardrobe

More than 200 items from Vivienne Westwood's personal collection, including garments, shoes, jewelry, and iconic looks spanning four decades, will be offered at a live auction in London on June 25, as well as an accompanying online sale from June 14 to 28. This unprecedented event, organized by Christie's auction house, offers a rare glimpse into the private world of the legendary designer.

A Celebration of Westwood's Enduring Influence

The auction will showcase Westwood's enduring influence on fashion, with pieces selected by her husband and the creative director of her fashion brand, Andreas Kronthaler. These items will be exhibited at a free, public showing at the auction house in London from Friday until June 24, allowing fans and admirers to witness the breadth and depth of Westwood's sartorial genius.

Honoring Westwood's Activism and Advocacy

Vivienne Westwood was not only a fashion icon but also an outspoken advocate for the planet and issues such as human rights and free speech. In a fitting tribute, the proceeds from the sale will go to organizations supporting the causes she championed during her life, including The Vivienne Foundation, Amnesty International, Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), and Greenpeace.

Capturing the Essence of Westwood's Visionary Designs

The auction will feature a diverse array of Westwood's creations, from her iconic "Propaganda" look from the 2005-2006 Autumn collection, which references her punk roots and Aldous Huxley's essay on "Propaganda in a Democratic Society," to a navy blue ensemble from her "Witches" collection from Autumn/Winter 1983-84, which was inspired by witchcraft and artist Keith Haring's code of magic symbols.

Preserving the Legacy of a True Fashion Trailblazer

As the auction house's head of the sale and director of Private & Iconic Collections, Adrian Hume Sayer, aptly stated, "Vivienne Westwood's sense of activism, art and style is embedded in each and every piece that she created." This auction presents a unique opportunity for audiences to delve into both the public and private realms of the great Dame Vivienne Westwood, while also supporting the causes she so passionately championed.
