As they were preparing to leave the beach, Dispoto made a split-second decision that would ultimately cost him his life.Fussell recounted the harrowing final moments, stating that Dispoto had insisted on returning to the beach to warn a group of children who were still in the water, despite her pleas for him to stay safe. "He said, 'I'll be right back.' I said, 'You have you have no business going back.' And he says, 'I'm just going to warn these kids because the sky is going to open. I'm just going to warn these kids, one minute.' I said, 'No,'" Fussell recalled.
