"We do have after-school programs for kids in the Hattiesburg and Dixie and Oak Grove areas (at the Hattiesburg YMCA)," explains Matt Rumph, the YMCA Southeast Mississippi executive director. "Our Petal branch actually serves the Petal School District."These programs ensure that children not only have a safe and nurturing environment to explore their interests but also receive the academic assistance they need to thrive. "We do activities like tutoring with a four-to-one ratio for tutors to kids if they need help reading. We also do homework, help to make sure the homework is done before they get home," Estudiante elaborates, underscoring the organization's commitment to fostering educational success.Beyond the academic focus, the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Clubs offer a diverse range of recreational and enrichment activities, ensuring that children have ample opportunities to explore their interests and develop new skills.
