Curtain Rises on Performing Arts Center's Captivating Lineup
The Center for Performing Arts has unveiled its highly anticipated schedule for the upcoming school year, promising a diverse array of captivating performances that will transport audiences on a journey through the realms of music, dance, and theater. From Broadway productions to Grammy-winning artists, this season's lineup promises to leave an indelible mark on the cultural landscape.
Unlock the Doors to a World of Artistic Brilliance
Kicking off the Season with a Cinematic Celebration
The Center for Performing Arts will kick off the season with a captivating event, "The Movie Mix Festival," on Saturday, September 14th. This vibrant celebration will feature a diverse array of artist performances and workshops, both inside and outside the Eisenhower Auditorium. Headlining the festival is the soulful and dynamic BJ The Chicago Kid, whose unique blend of R&B and hip-hop is sure to energize the crowd.Following the festival, the renowned choral ensemble Chanticleer will grace the stage on Thursday, September 26th, with their performance of "Sing Joyfully." This twelve-man group is renowned for their impeccable harmonies and captivating interpretations of both classical and contemporary works.
Embracing the Legends of Music and Dance
October promises to be a month of musical and theatrical brilliance. The Center will host a production of "Tina Turner – The Tina Turner Musical" on Sunday, October 6th, allowing audiences to immerse themselves in the life and legacy of the iconic "Queen of Rock and Roll."Families will delight in the arrival of "Blippi: Join the Band Tour" on Thursday, October 10th, as the beloved children's character takes the stage with his musical ensemble. The Ailey II Dance Company will also grace the stage on Thursday, October 17th, under the artistic direction of Francesca Harper, showcasing their exceptional talent and artistry.The musical journey continues with Le Consort's performance of "From Naples to London" on Tuesday, October 22nd, and the legendary Eddie Palmieri Salsa Orchestra on Wednesday, October 23rd, honoring the trailblazer of Latin music. Rounding out the month, the arena wrestling show "Slam!" by Ex Machina/Robert Lepage and Cirque Flip Fabrique will captivate audiences on Wednesday, October 30th.
Celebrating the Diverse Voices of the Performing Arts
November brings a diverse array of performances to the Center. Musical artist Sam Barber will take the stage on Thursday, November 7th, while the Step Afrika! ensemble will present "The Migration: Reflections on Jacob Lawrence" on Wednesday, November 13th, exploring the powerful themes of the African American experience through percussive dance.
Ushering in the Holiday Season with Joyful Celebrations
As the year draws to a close, the Center for Performing Arts will welcome the holiday season with a special performance by three-time Grammy Award-winning artist Samara Joy. Joined by the McLendon Family, Samara Joy will present "A Joyful Holiday" on Tuesday, December 3rd, filling the auditorium with the warmth and spirit of the season.The Penn State School of Music will also take the stage on Sunday, December 8th, with their popular "Mosaic" performance, showcasing the diverse talents of the university's music program.
Honoring the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The new year will begin with a powerful tribute to the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. On Friday, January 24th, vocal ensembles from Delaware, Penn State, and regional high schools will come together for "A Choral Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr." in Eisenhower Auditorium.Prior to this, on Wednesday, January 22nd, the Compagnie Herve Koubi will present the captivating dance performance "What the Day Owes the Night," transporting audiences through the power of movement.
Embracing the Virtuosity of Musical Legends
February will see the return of Grammy-nominated alto saxophone artist Lakecia Benjamin, who will grace the stage on Wednesday, February 26th, showcasing her exceptional talent and artistry.
Bringing Broadway to the Center
The spring season will kick off with a performance of the beloved Broadway musical "Dear Evan Hansen" on Thursday, March 27th, followed by the Center's own production of "The Addams Family" on Tuesday, April 1st and Wednesday, April 2nd.Rounding out the season, the Bang on a Can All-Stars and the Penn State Choir will come together on Wednesday, April 9th to perform David Lang's "Before and After Nature," blending the worlds of contemporary classical music and choral excellence.
